Parish “Mardi Gras” Jubilee Celebration
November 19, 2008
The Advent Giving Tree - NEW IDEA this year
|
The people of O.L.M. Parish have been most generous in
buying gifts for families in the Tenderloin the past few years, as part of
our Advent tradition. However, given some logistical problems we’ve run into,
and given the many people in our own neighborhoods who are having a very
rough time economically, we will be doing something different this year.
Namely, if you would like to do a little something special for Advent, we
encourage you to consider one of the following:
Drop off a donation at the rectory for our parish Saint Vincent de Paul
Society, whose members go to visit needy families here in Westlake and help
them with food, diapers, milk, money for rent, etc.
Visit the web site of the St.
Vincent de Paul Society of San Mateo County and see how you can help: http://www.svdp-sanmateoco.org
Contact their “homeless help center” at 344 Grand Ave. in South S.F. and
see if you can volunteer, donate goods, or send a monetary contribution: Svdpinfo@yahoo.com
Call their District Office at (650) 373-0623 and see if you can help in
other ways.

20th Anniversary, Missionary Sisters of the Holy Cross
|
On Saturday, August 2, during a special 10:30 a.m. Mass
here at OLM, Bishop William Justice will come to OLM to help our very
own Missionary Sisters of the Holy Cross celebrate the 20th anniversary of
their arrival from Vietnam.
As part of the liturgy, Sr. Marie Faustina Thanh Tu Pham, L.H.C.,
will also be making her First Profession.
There will be a reception down in the Church Hall right afterwards.
The L.H.C. Convent on Southgate Avenue, near the library, was the first
house they established here in California, and it has been going strong ever
since. As you may be aware, the Qui Nhon Sisters of the Holy Cross are
responsible for keeping our Church so beautiful: they clean and decorate the
worship space each week, they purchase and arrange the flowers for the
sanctuary, they serve as weekend sacristans, and they take care of the vestments
and altar linens. Please join us for this festive occasion next Saturday, and
call Barbara at the rectory if you can bring your favorite food dish for the
party.

RVM 50th anniversary
|
During the weekend of July 5, the Religious of the
Virgin Mary begin a year of celebration surrounding their 50th
anniversary of coming to California to begin their mission work here. As
Sacramento was their first mission, the celebrations will be held there, so
please keep our R.V.M. Sisters in your prayers during this happy and festive
time. (During a meeting this morning, I also learned that our Convent
community will be blessed with some new Sisters, about whom you may read in
the coming parish bulletins!) As you know, the R.V.M. Sisters are a vital
part of our parish, especially in running the Religious Education Program,
the Grief Support Ministry, organizing Simbang Gabi each December, and
countless other ministries.
