February 26, 2010 Dear fellow parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy, How happy and thrilled I was to receive the signed contract yesterday for the woman who will lead our parish school beginning this summer! Since December 16 I have been working hard, trying to find a new principal for Our Lady of Mercy School: placing ads in various papers and websites, contacting a number of Religious Orders and dioceses. After going through many resumes, and doing interviews with some very promising candidates, I was blessed to meet Mrs. Garcia last weekend for an official interview, as she and her husband had driven up from Southern California for the baptism of one of their grandchildren at St. Cecilia Church. This is a great and compassionate woman, extremely organized, who is spoken of very highly by the people in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles where she currently serves as principal. For those of you in education, Mrs. Garcia has been asked many times to serve on WASC teams, which says a lot about the confidence the Department of Catholic Schools has in her abilities. She has a lot of experience in education, including ten years of being a principal of two Catholic schools, and everyone who spoke with me about Mrs. Garcia told me what a fine Catholic family she has, how much she cares for her teachers, the children and parents of her school, and the faith formation the little ones receive at school. Her kindness and sense of humor were evident when we met here in the rectory, and I thank the good Lord that she will be coming to work with us here at OLM. Mrs. Garcia and her husband have four grown sons, two of whom live in San Francisco -- this is one reason Mr. and Mrs. Garcia want to move north, to be closer to the grandchildren. Her pastor tells me how sorry he is to see her go, and what an incredible transformation she brought about in the school she has led for the past eight years, turning it into a place of truly Catholic values, great learning, and much love. I'm sorry to go on and on, but I wanted you to know the great news about our new principal, who starts work this summer. Many schools in the Archdiocese of San Francisco are going through the same difficult search process for a new leader, so we are truly blessed! Please keep Mrs. Garcia and her family in your prayers during this time of transition. I hope you will have the chance to meet her and her husband when they come up later this month to stay in our guest room and visit the parish and the school. Have a lovely weekend, Father William E. Brown - Pastor Our Lady of Mercy Church 1 Elmwood Drive Daly City, CA 94015-3424
